A EMPEROR IS CROWNED

800 AC
Charlemagne was crowned in Rome by the Pope on Christmas day. Charlemagne was his most powerful in 800 as the Emperor of the Romans. Charlemagne has been called the "Father of Europe" because he united the majority of Western Europe for the first time since the Roman Empire. His rule sparked the Carolingian Renaissance, a time of energetic cultural and intellectual activity within the Western Church. All Holy Roman Emperors thought of their kingdoms as to be descendants of Charlemagne's empire, up to the last Emperor Francis II and the French and German monarchies.
